School Year 2014-2015

Year 11, folks!

I didn't think there would be a Year 11. It's been increasingly challenging to continue to be a stay-at-home Mom, supporting a family on a limited income. But, my conviction has ALWAYS been to homeschool my children until it's either obvious it isn't working or THEY choose to explore a new educational path. Homeschooling works for us! And as I juggle spending and make sacrifices, homeschooling just becomes that much more meaningful and enjoyable, and less of a choice, but a parenting and family "constant". In a life full of changes, keeping those "constants" are a must.

    1. Well, Jake is going into 9th or 10th grade. We haven't decided yet. LOL He may not be homeschooled next year, but attend a new high school that focuses on science, math and technology (grade 9) But if he is home then he will do HippoCampus US History (AP) and/or US Government and Politics (AP) (grade 10). This is the link: http://www.hippocampus.org/HippoCampus/History%20%26%20Government;jsessionid=473866CD5786512AFD6A698323CACB25. I have not made any decisions on Spanish for home studies, but leaning towards either Mango through our library, going to the public high school or Rosetta Stone.

  4. Sounds like a good plan for the year. I hope the high school is a wonderful change for Jake. The blocks of time and homework sound like a great motivator to me.

  8. Philip did Chinese last year using Rosetta Stone. Over the summer we joined the local Chinese Association because they offer language lessons. We will continue with Rosetta Stone in September and hopefully with the Chinese Association.

  9. 10 years! woo hoo! how exciting!
Jake's curriculum looks so cool. If we had this option where we live, it might have been just the thing for my guys with a strong engineering bent.
We'll be using Saxon and Easy Grammar, too.
Your school room looks fantastic! and I love seeing how you schedule blocks of time. That's really helpful to me.
Good luck to Jake! (and his mama and siblings)have a great start to your school year.
